Tane is a boundary-crossing composer and sound designer, crafting bespoke soundscapes through multiple music and audio practices to tell a story. He works across a broad spectrum of media; film and TV, concert, live theatre, dance, gaming, and location-based experiences from immersive museums to rollercoasters.
Tane’s work for screen spans feature films, short films, and series. As music and sound editor on Sir Peter Jackson’s Get Back, the acclaimed Beatles documentary series, he received both an MPSE Golden Reel Award and a Primetime Emmy Award.
For over a decade Tane has enjoyed a close working relationship with Sir Richard Taylor’s Weta Workshops, composing and sound designing to bring to life the otherworldly visions of their location-based experiences.
The THEA award winning Gallipoli: The Scale of Our War saw him directing voice actors to embody real life characters from New Zealand’s history, and writing and recording an emotionally charged symphonic score performed by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, to create an interlocking soundscape that pulls visitors through the harrowing journey of the WW1 Gallipoli campaign.
The visitor favourite and again THEA award winning Weta Workshop Unleashed conversely is a wild genre hopping journey with punchy cinematic music and sound design for films, animatronics and light shows, interactives, immersive spaces, and a haunted house.
TCM Musem Zhuhai is a four-floor location-based experience in a purpose-built building in Zhuhai, China, an interlocking journey of short films, dome cinemas, interactive games, and immersive environments from spaceships to magical forests. In addition to personally crafting multiple hours of original music and sound design with music recording sessions in both New Zealand and China, Tane managed an international multi-lingual soundscape team of other composers, designers and technicians, putting together a process for delivering this extreme vision and overseeing and integrating all aspects of soundscape, dialogue, sound design and music.
For over a decade Tane has composed award-winning scores and sound design for New Zealand theatre company Trick of the Light, who’s works tour across Europe, America, and China, the fantastical stories and music ranging from retro synth horror, to sweeping fantasy accompanied by live orchestra.
Tane’s work is known both for its innovation and stylistic diversity, and uncompromising care and attention to detail.
